The loan office.
If you have a Norwegian citizenship Lånekassen provides a loan of NOK 151 000 for one year of folkhigh school. 40% of this sum is converted into a scholarship after completing the school year. This means that you must cover the remaining amount yourself.
Remember to apply to the loan office yourself! Lånekassen asks for applications for loans/scholarships online - and you can find this application at www.lanekassen.no.
IMPORTANT! Remember that it is your responsibility to apply for loans and stipend.
When you have applied to the loan office, a message will automatically be sent to the school. The school approves your loan application on the day you attend school. The payment from the loan office usually takes place 1-2 weeks after attendance.
Room and Board.
It is most common for two students to share a room, but the school also has a few single rooms. In a double room there are two beds with a simple mattress topper. The bed width is 80 cm. You share a wardrobe with your roommate and there are shelves and space to hang clothes. There are some hangers in each closet. There is a sink and mirror in the room as well as a small dresser and bedside table with two drawers.
What do you have to take with you to the room when you come to school?
- Bed linen- Duvet and pillow with cover and sheets (foreign students may borrow this)
- Towel
- Feel free to bring pictures, posters and objects that make the room pleasant
- A thicker mattress topper and bedspread if you wish.
PS! We also recommend that you label all clothing and equipment.
Remember to bring wind and rainproof clothing, hat, gloves, boots/hiking shoes, sleeping bag and sleeping mat. This is good to have with you right from the start - since the whole school is going on an excursion in the first week of school.
Single room request:
The school has a few single rooms. If you want a single room, it is important that you justify your reasoning. A single room costs an additional NOK 7,000. This sum is distributed on invoices in December and May. Send an e-mail to post@hallingdalfhs.no if you want a single room, and we will comply as far as possible.
Dietary Requests/Restrictions:
If you have special diets or allergies that you have not stated in the application, send us an e-mail to kjokken@hallingdalfhs.no, so that our kitchen staff can make the best possible arrangements. If you need a special diet for medical reasons, for example a gluten-free diet, there will be an additional charge. With a medical certificate, you can apply for support for this via NAV. We also offer vegetarian food at no additional cost.
Insurance, Passport and Study Certificate.
You must remember to arrange this before the start of school:
- Valid passport for at least one and a half years in the future.
- European health insurance cards. (Norwegian citizens)
- Contents/equipment insurance. - You must arrange insurance for private assets yourself.
- Travel insurance - The school has accident insurance and travel insurance for all students.

Bergensbanen from Bergen in the west to Oslo in the east, takes you several times a day to Gol station. From there, it's a short trip by car, taxi or your own legs - up to the school.
If you come by car - cross both Rv.7 (Oslo-Bergen), Rv. 52 (Hemsedalsfjellet) and Rv. 51 (From Lillehammer/Gjøvik over Golsfjellet) through Gol.
Buses from the south, east and west also stop daily at Skysstasjonen down in the center of Gol.
If you come with your own car, the school has its own parking spaces for our students. Unfortunately, we do not have chargers for electric cars.
Until we meet, please follow us on our website www.hallingdalfhs.no, facebook or instagram @hallingdalfhs.
The entire staff at the school will do our best to ensure that you have a great year here in Gol, and we are looking forward to seeing you at Hallingdal Folkehøgskule on Sunday August 24th!
A big greeting from all of us who work here at Hallingdal Folkehøgskole!
